In any context, anti- means against or opposite. In this case, it would be the opposite of or that which is against a romantic comedy. If we know the elements of the romantic comedy genre, we can determine the features of its antithesis, the anti-romantic comedy.
A romantic comedy is a love story, generally centered around a series of humorous circumstances and characters, where love is thwarted through external events and misunderstandings but which finally ends happily. There are plenty of them around in every form, ranging from Shakespeare's romantic comedies to more modern romantic comedy movies such as You've Got Mail.
You Never can tell is an anti romantic comedy. In the drama the love story of Valentine and Gloria doesn't meet the traditional love story its exceptional a lack of action . Gloria was being educated as a modern rationalist girl without passion of love. She learned from her mother Mrs Clandon who is a feminist women separated from her husband for not giving her freedom.
Gloria was educated in such way that she can not be week for love or surrender to male domination. When Mr. Valentine proposed her at fist time saying that his blood mixed with oxygenated when he saw her. Gloria only express her feeling like a simple way and she don't agree to say it love.
Gloria wants scientific prove of that feeling rather then accept it as love.
And the love making scene was not much of traditional love scene it was different feeling . There was no misunderstanding between Gloria and valentine. Though valentine has expressed his feeling in more romantic way but his action for goloria was not romantic .
On the other hand Dolly Clandon love scene was not so romantic expressed in the play. Mr Crapton and Clandon at last reconciliation feeling need for each other but there was no romance. They were divided because of there ideology. But after a long gap there are connected but thats not because of love but it's because of life forces. Though the play has happy ending but no love making action .
Thus the play deals with anti romantic play .
